JOINT EFFORT TO FIGHT AND PREVENT PIRACY AND ARMED ROBBERY AGAINST SHIPS IN SOUTHEAST ASIA<\/strong><\/p>\r\n

This article analyses the provisions of the international law of the sea and the Regional Co-operation Agreement on Combating Piracy and Armed Robbery against ships in Asia 2004 (ReCAAP 2004), so as to clarify the concepts of piracy and armed robbery against ships; the cooperation obligations of Asian countries in general and southeast Asia in particular in the prevention of this special forms of crime. The article also delves into the anti-piracy practice in southeast Asia, thereby shedding light on a number of advantages and difficulties in the implementation of ReCAAP 2004 provisions in the world\u2019s number 1 hot spot of piracy, and thereupon recommending several solutions to aid effective joint efforts in the fight and prevention of piracy and armed robbery against ships in southeast Asia.<\/p>\r\n
