The methodological basis of the article was formed by general scientific (dialectical, systemic, logical, etc.) and specific scientific (formallegal, historicallegal, prognostic, etc.) research methods.<br \/>Results of the study: the need for normative and practical restoration of approaches to the form and content of indictments reflected in the original version of the Criminal Procedure Code of the Russian Federation is substantiated.<br \/>Findings and conclusions: it is proposed to reduce the volume of information included in indictments again, turning them into brief \u00abannotations\u00bb to the materials of completed pretrial proceedings, which do not provide a detailed coverage of the results of investigative activities, primarily a detailed presentation of
